Clicks to Conversion Happen Quickly

According to the new Q2 2000 Online Advertising Report from AdKnowledge, most conversions of click-throughs into sales happen very quickly. Sixty percent of conversions for first time customers occur within the first half hour. After that the share that will click through diminishes rapidly. Another 9% will convert before an hour is up. Within a day fully 80% have converted. Only 1% will of click-throughs will happen at the end of 30 days.

The categories among websites showing the greatest growth were:

  • Community sites, up 25%
  • Sites with editorial content geared towards a specific segment of the population, up 7%
  • Business-to-Business sites, up 2%
  • Sports and fitness, up 2%
  • News and media, already the largest category, which grew 1%

Also during the second quarter, the overall average CPM rate showed very modest increase of 1%. AdKnowledge believes this demonstrates a trend towards rate stabilization, a positive factor in the web ad marketplace.

The sites and networks in the AdKnowledge System are representative of the web ad marketplace. According to Nielsen//NetRatings, the web-wide reach of the sites and networks tracked by AdKnowledge is 95.85% of the home audience and 98.42% of the work audience.
